Welcome to Metro Dhaka

Dhaka Metro Rail (DMTCL) opened to the public in December 2022 with the first segment of MRT Line 6 — the first metro line in Bangladesh. The full route from Uttara North to Motijheel (16 stations, 20.1 km) followed: the section to Motijheel was inaugurated on 4 November 2023 and all 16 stations were in service by 31 December 2023. It serves the busiest north-south corridor of the capital. The rest of the planned network — MRT Lines 1, 2, 4, 5N and 5S — is under construction or still in planning, and none of those lines has a confirmed opening date yet.

MRT Line 6 — the only operating line

A 20.1 km fully-elevated rapid transit line with 16 stations, connecting Uttara in the north to Motijheel (CBD) in the south. Operates with 6-car Japanese-built trainsets every 5–6 minutes at the busiest times and every 8 minutes off-peak (DMTCL timetable). Fares range from ৳20 to ৳100 depending on distance.

Frequently asked questions

From Sunday to Thursday and on Saturdays the first MRT Line 6 train leaves Uttara North at 06:30 and Motijheel at 07:15; the last leave at 21:50 and 22:30. On Fridays the morning is used for maintenance and the first trains run at 15:00 and 15:20, finishing at the same time.
Fares range from ৳20 (1–2 stations) to ৳100 for the full Uttara North ↔ Motijheel journey. MRT Pass and Rapid Pass holders get a 10% discount.
Single Journey Tickets — contactless single-use cards that the exit gate keeps — are sold at every station from the ticket vending machines (TVM) and the ticket office (TOM). For frequent travel, the rechargeable MRT Pass offers better value and faster boarding.
Yes. All 16 MRT Line 6 stations are equipped with lifts, tactile paving and dedicated boarding areas. Trains have wheelchair spaces and priority seating.
MRT Line 1 (Airport ↔ Kamalapur + Purbachal branch), MRT Line 5 (Northern and Southern routes) and MRT Lines 2 & 4 are in various stages of planning and construction. None of them has a confirmed opening date yet.
